Registration from 5:30 pmThis seminar will give an introduction to Peek, the Portable Eye Examination Kit, a revolutionary tool that uses smartphones to test eyes easily and affordably anywhere in the world. Peek tackles avoidable blindness by increasing access to high-quality eye care. It has been developed through a collaboration by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the University of Strathclyde and the NHS Glasgow Centre for Ophthalmic Research. It is currently in used in the field in several low-income countries.
This event will incorporate a live demonstration of Peek by Dr Mario Giardini from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, who leads the design of the Peek gadgets that see inside the eye.
Registration will take place from 5.30pm and refreshments will be available.
This is a general interest event which will be accessible to anyone interested in finding out more about the technology and seeing the live demonstration.
An opportunity to discover the technology and learn about the Department of Biomedical Engineering's commitment to achieving social impact from its research.
There will be a chance to meet Peek team members and explore possibilities for further projects and applications involving mobile technologies and/or social impact.
