Experts will be on hand to help kick start research into your family history or if you have hit a brick wall, provide direction on how to make progress. We will have a range of experts available who can provide advice on both general and specific areas of interest and using DNA to complement your research.
Displays of recent research using genetic genealogy and more traditional methods to trace the families of the warriors at Bannockburn as well as information on useful Scottish genealogical sources will provide new insights to family historians.
After registration, you will be contacted by email and asked if you would like to take advantage of a free 20 minute consultation by one of our experts. You will be asked to fill in a pre-booking form which will be provided in the e-mail so that you can be matched to the appropriate expert. Please note that research will not be done for you but you will be given advice on how to further your research.
Please have any paperwork (e.g. certificates) in order and ready to show during your appointment.
This workshop is preceded by a morning session exploring the delivery of family history, genealogy and heritage in Scotland, to both national and international tourists. You’ll hear from a range of speakers involved in the delivery of ancestral tourism and beyond, including recent University of Strathclyde research projects from the Department of Marketing and the Centre for Lifelong Learning.
