Scotland's Universities and the 1+2 Language Policy

This symposium aims to explore opportunities offered by Scotland’s 1+2 language policy through more strategic linkages between universities and schools. The event will bring together representatives from university language departments with stakeholders from the Scottish Funding Council, Scottish Government and the secondary education sector.

The event is jointly organised by Scotland's National Centre for Languages (SCILT) and the University Council for Modern Languages Scotland.  There will also be an opportunity to meet with participants from the follow-on twilight event during a networking reception (4.30-5.00pm) where food and refreshments are served.


Who should attend?

  • Representatives from senior management and Languages departments in Scottish HEIs
  • Senior officers from Education Scotland 
  • Curriculum leaders from local authorities and independent schools in Scotland
  • Representatives from the Scottish Government and Scottish Funding Council, British Academy, Routes into Languages team, CILT Cymru
