A Showcase of Research and Innovation in Diabetes in partnership with the Digital Health and Care Innovation Centre.

The aim of this event is to showcase the research and innovation work being conducted at the University of Strathclyde to improve the lives of people living with diabetes. The event will bring together people living with diabetes, healthcare professionals, charities, academics and industry professionals to share insights and experiences to guide current and future research.  

The event will start with an overview presentation on National and Global Diabetes Challengeand Scotland’s Digital Health and Care Strategic ambitions, followed by the art of the possible and an example of living as a digital diabetic. Research subject areas will be briefly outlined,andexamples of ongoing research and developments will then be presented. Open discussions will be encouraged to share insights, experiences challenges and opportunities for future work. 

 Confirmed Keynote Speakers: 

  • Michelle Brogan, Service Development Manager, Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre 

  • Grant Reilly - Marketing, Communications & Events Manager at Digital Health and Care Innovation Centre/ Founder of Ganesha Gear Diabetic Bag of Lifeand has lived with Type 1 diabetes for 30 years. 

  • Dr Alison Kirk- Reader in Physical Activity for Health at The University of Strathclyde with over 20 years of research exploring methods of supporting active lifestyles for diabetes prevention and management.  

  • Dr Marilyn Lennon – Reader in Digital Health and Care at University of Strathclyde with over 30 years of research in the user centered design and evaluation of interactive technologies and services for health and care settings.

  • Professor Gwyn Gould has an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and a PhD in Biophysics. He has worked for over 30 years on the structure and function of glucose transporters and the cell biology of membrane trafficking.
