We are happy to welcome you to an opening event of Engage with Strathclyde: showcasing the University of Strathclyde’s Health & Care Futures initiative for holistic health, care and social wellbeing. We invite you to discuss how the experiences of the past year might shape our future NHS.

To initiate discussion we are proud to welcome visionaries in their respective fields:

Sir Harry Burns is a Professor of Global Public Health at The University of Strathclyde. He was the Chief Medical Officer for Scotland from September 2005 to April 2014 and has become known for his work to address health inequalities.

Irene Oldfather is the Director of Strategy and Engagement of the Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland. She brings a wealth of experience as a politician engaged in social wellbeing on Scottish, British and European levels.

George Crooks is the Chief Executive of the Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre, Scotland’s national innovation centre for digital health and care. He has been Medical Director for NHS24 and Director of the Scottish Centre for Telehealth & Telecare.

The event follows the highly successful setup of Café Scientifique empowering public engagement outside the classic academic confines: While we provide outstanding experts to stimulate discussion, this format is not a classic podium presentation. We welcome the expertise within our audience to contribute and to shape the interaction between Strathclyde’s Health & Care Futures and the public.

Who should attend?

Within the context of Strathclyde's Health & Care Futures and our Health & Wellbeing Theme we invite our partners in media and publishing, in the NHS and in governmental and public health bodies as well as in professional organizations working in the health and social sector.

Furthermore, we welcome practitioners working in the field, as well as members of the public.

Benefits of attending

Our speakers are visionaries in their respective lines of work – professionals who bring an ability to see beyond the day-to-day tasks and envisage the future of our health, care and social work systems. Together with our audience, we will discuss ideas around how our NHS might look ten years from now.
