Registration from 9:00 amThis event aims to highlight estrangement in higher education, with a focus on the experiences of students who are estranged from their families.
‘Estranged students' face challenges in accessing and completing their studies, including financial pressure, difficulty securing stable accommodation and mental health issues connected to stress and isolation. These barriers set ‘estranged students’ apart from other groups, and Higher Education Institution's continue to be unequal and ‘strange’ for widening participation students.

9:30-9:45 - Welcome
9:45-10:30 - "Estrangement Challenge" board game and discussion
10:30 - 11:15 - Sidonie Echochard (presenting PhD research into student estrangement)
11:15 - 12:00 - Prof Yvette Taylor and Dr Cristina Costa (presenting Carnegie and SRHE funded research into experiences of estranged students beyond entry point.
12:00-12:45 - Panel discussion
12:45 - networking lunch
Through interactive sessions and discussion, delegates will learn more about the challenges faced by students who are estranged from their families. We will explore how to best irradicate barriers faced by estranged students, both in accessing and completing their higher education.
