Addressing the Attainment Gap Through Active Play

Thursday, 4th May 2017, 11:00 am - 2:30 pm

Registration from 10:30 am

Research evidence shows that education and health are closely linked, so promoting the health and wellbeing of pupils within schools has significant potential to improve their educational, health and wellbeing outcomes.

Active Play tackles some of Scotland’s most significant childhood challenges – physical inactivity, increasing sedentary behaviour, rising childhood obesity and poor attainment.

This event will showcase the collaborative, cross-sectoral work taking place to deliver, and evaluate, the impact of Active Play on the health and wellbeing of primary school children and how it addresses inequalities in educational attainment.

Maureen McKenna, Director of Education at Glasgow City Council (GCC), will provide the keynote presentation on the Active Play programme, which is currently being rolled out as part of their Improvement Challenge.

During the networking lunch, delegates will be invited to participate in deciding which questions will be debated in the afternoon session.

This event is free to attend.  Registration and refreshments will be available from 10.30am.  Lunch will be provided.
