Registration from 5:30 pmThe General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) standards and the Scottish Professional Learning Model require teachers in Scotland to engage in and with research. Yet for many it feels unachievable alongside high workloads. These two workshops try to challenge that myth and share pragmatic ways of incorporating enquiry into teaching and learning.
Workshop 1 (30th April): Developing an Enquiry
What is practitioner enquiry, its background and how it fits with practice and research
Some key rules to make sure it is manageable while working full time
Time to work through developing an enquiry question and planning the research process
Workshop 2 (14th May): Leading a Practitioner Enquiry Community
Key characteristics of a practitioner enquiry community
Sharing of practice including one or two examples from local schools/Local authorities
Including student led enquiry in the enquiry community
Time to talk through practicalities and potential tensions with time to problem solve.
Workshops can be taken as individual sessions or you can join us for both, please register for workshop 2 here.
These workshops are aimed at teachers and education professionals.
Workshop 1 targets those with limited or no practitioner enquiry experience, introducing a model of enquiry starting with practice.
Workshop 2 is for leaders running or intending to run an enquiry approach in their setting exploring characteristics of enquiry leadership and potential connections.
Workshops can be taken as standalone sessions or in combination. We aim to introduce a model of practitioner enquiry for professional learning which emphasises student outcomes and can be incorporated into practice. Underpinning both sessions is an emphasis on usefulness of the process and outcomes for all participants.
